Have you got a question you'd like to ask the Tunbridge Wells first team management? If you've got a reasonable question to ask, don't hold back, email Steve Gibbons at [email protected] and have it answered in this column!
MATT ASKED: The squad looked pretty depleted last Saturday at Beckenham, with only two subs on the bench and without the likes of Clayton Cooper, Gary Hemens, Adrian Hatcher and Andy Garrett. Will any of these players be back before our semi final at Beckenham, and are there any new signings in the pipe line?
Gibbo says: Injuries are always a problem and strike just when you don't want them to, Hatch was suspended and will return in time for the Semi,Clayton is still a while off and Gary Hemens will not be back this season which is a big blow. Teddy Ansells foot is getting better so had all 4 been avaliable along with Shane Hickmott the question would have been who do you leave out? Thats what makes the squad as a whole very important...By the way Andy Garrett was at the game, playing centre back for us.....
and then Gazza Asked:How is the squad shaping up? Is there any more signings in the pipeline or are you and Martin perfectly happy with those you've got at the moment?
Gibbo says: The Squad itself is looking strong and yes we are happy with it, recently we signed Matt Nicholls from Maidstone and he has settled in nicely,we have plently of options in each position now and once everone gets back from their bans/Injuries it will prove quite the selection headache. If you run through the names of the midfielders Mortimer / Garrett / O'leary / El Ferdi / Phillips / Nicholls / Balmer thats a seven man midfield already! We are looking to add to the squad and if the right players become avaliable then we will do our best to ensure they are wearing the red of the Wells as soon as possible.
Jane (Bitch) thats her forum username and not what i have decided to call her Asked:What difference has there been in morale and team discipline since Martin Farnie took over?
Gibbo Says: I'd like to think that the morale of the team has improved, we have been doing well and winning so that always helps. The players all get on well and have smiles on their faces more often than not.Its easy to forget that you are supposed to enjoy playing when the pressure is on to win matches, but if you see the players after a game they are usually having a laugh together (usually at the expense of whoever has to wear "the outfit") in the clubhouse its important that they enjoy themselves when they are all happy they play better. Plus Brad usually does something daft each week most things that can't be mentioned here.....
Mark Wyver asked:As a follower of Whitstable Town and kent football from Conference to County League in general what do you think the future of the kent league is with all the restructuring going on which nobody seems to know what is going on.I fear for the league with the lack of county league sides without the facillites ie stand or floodlights. As a former player and now part of a management team i would be interested read your views.
Gibbo Says: The restructuring is always difficult as most people in football want change but don't like it when it happens! These days everything costs so much more just to even get plans made, football is being made easier to see on Tv so it takes away the casual observer on a Saturday afternoon so the clubs don't have anything more than the hardcore of fans that always go to watch their local non league side.Invariably if they want to improve the ground then its usually these same fans that are being asked to stump up more money for admission to improve facilities, they are pulling from the same pot over and over again. The Clubs at this level are run by people who love the game and the biggest killer after money is time.theres so much work that has to go into the day to day running of clubs that anyone who throws themself into it should be applauded. You are right about the lack of sides coming up but you also have to look at the sides who have dropped out of this level too, Canterbury, Faversham, Alma Swanley, Danson Furness, Crockenhill... all sides i played against in the last 10 years or so,its difficult to keep up with the demands of the ground grading and to fix them back up costs lots more than most can afford and the return on the investment is not nearly enough...
