| Deres Win Culverden Rut |

When Erith & Belvedere came calling, Tunbridge Wells played host to several familiar names, meaning that this game was always going to have an edge to it. So perhaps it's not surprising that it took fully 30 minutes before the deadlock was broken and Lewis Wood hit the back of the net for the visitors. However, Tunbridge Wells were in no mood to cave in as happened the week before, and won a penalty just prior to the break which Andy McMath dispatched to level the scores. Into the second period, Jack Harris put the home side into the lead and things were looking rosy at Culverden before the same player was sent off for pushing an opponent. With the man advantage, the Deres quickly took the initiative Lewis Wood struck to put them on level terms on 70 minutes before completing his hattrick, netting the winner ten minutes from time. "We were bitterly disappointed in the result, especially since I felt at 2-1 with eleven players each we were in control," first team manager Martin Larkin said afterwards. "We had scored a good second goal and were on top. They'd lost their shape a little and we were getting in behind them. Jack picked up a terrible red card. He knows he has made a mistake, and in his defence he raised his hands to move their player away from him as he was treading all over Jack's feet on the goal line. I don't believe there was enough force in the push to fall over, but he did - and the letter of the law says that the red card had to be shown. We can't complain. "That gave Erith & Belvedere the boost they needed and their second goal so quick after the red card swung the game. We will learn from it as always and take the disappointment/anger into the derby game on Monday." |
