Introducing The Lads

I’m very happy with the squad that I have assembled for the upcoming season. We have a very good balance of youth and experience to choose from.

The majority of the squad have their best years ahead of them, and with an average age of 20-21 they are still eager to learn. I believe that the majority of these players will go on and play for The Wells on the senior stage.

To familiarize you with who will be playing for the reserves over the coming season, here’s a brief introduction to the lads:

Stewart Copeland, age 21 (Goalkeeper). Former clubs include Orpington and Farnborough OB Guild. Stuart still lives in Orpington, but is looking forward to stepping up a level with The Wells.

Richard Vidler, age 21, (Defender). Former clubs include Tunbridge Wells, Ashford Town and Rye Utd. A former Charlton youth player, Richard is comfortable on either foot anywhere along the back line.

Jonathan Lord, (Defender). Formerly with Tonbridge Invicta, Jonathan signed from junior football with his brother Mike during the summer.

James Russell, (Defender). A strong centre half who travels all the way from Old Kent Road to turn out for The Wells. James is definitely considered to be one for the future.

Kyle Morgan, age 21, (Defender). Comfortable literally anywhere along the back, Kyle comes from Catford.

Ben Starkey, (Midfield). Ben joins the side from junior football, and is a ball-playing midfielder who is likely to figure for the first team in the future.

Lloyd Gofton (Left Midfield/Defence). Lloyd is another player who has joined from junior football. He has already impressed the first team management with his great attitude and approach to the game.

Alfie Nunn, age 20, (Midfield). Alfie is an excellent prospect with a genuine love of the game. Expect higher things from this one.

Johnny Pilbeam, age 19, (Midfield). A product of the Tonbridge Angels youth set up, Johnny is very fit with a good attitude.

Danny Jones, age 24, (Midfield). Former clubs include Ashford Town and Rye Utd. This is Danny’s season. He has over 30 senior appearances to his name, including Sussex League and Isthmian League experience, and is a midfielder who plays the simple ball. A capable stand-in should he get a call-up from the First team.

Ben Kilsby, age 27, (Midfield/Defender). Formerly with Rye Utd and Ashford Town, Ben is a hardworking player who never gives up. Ben played in the Sussex County League for Rye Utd last season. He started this season well with a goal against Storrington in pre-season.

Aaron Southall, age 21, (Striker). Formerly with Dulwich Hamlet, Aaron is a stocky and very strong forward with more than an eye for goal. He kicked off his Wells career with two excellently taken goals. A definite candidate for top scorer.

Bobby Dixey, age 19, (Striker). Former clubs include Tonbridge Angels, where he was a product of the youth set up. Definitely one to watch, Bobby is a very hard working old fashioned centre forward.

Jason Reynolds, age 20, (Striker). Previously with Ashford Town and Rye United. Jason Finished last season as top scorer at Rye Utd in the Sussex County League. Comfortable on both feet, and with a definite eye for goal, Jason will be another player to watch out for.

John Whittaker, age 30, (Striker). Formerly with Ashford Town, Hythe Town, Rye Utd, Player/Coach John is another ex-Rye player, who would have played more games had he not suffered injury in a car accident. John has played for Mike at all his senior sides, and also the Royal Engineers.

Matt Barrand, age 20, (Striker). Another player who travels from the Old Kent Road to play in The Wells’ colours. Keen and eager to impress, Matt is quick and also has an eye for goal. He is comfortable on either foot, or on either flank.

STAYING ON

These players have stayed with the club from last season and will need no introduction.

Albie Barton - Retained

Mike Graham - Retained

Brad Mortimer - Retained

FROM THE YOUTH

James Lyall - (Midfield/Defender). Retained from last year’s youth, James is off to University in October but will figure with the side until then.

Anthus Davis - Current youth player who is sure to figure this season. Very quick with an eye for goal, and was the first player to step up to the reserves after the initial merger between Tunbridge Wells and Foresters FC two seasons ago.

So there you have it. We’re ready to start the new season tomorrow and there’s plenty of promise from this batch of players. I said when I joined the club that we hope to have a young and energetic side, feeding through to the first team some well-drilled and very capable players as soon as possible and I think we’ve made a good start.

Mike
