| THE CUP RUN THAT KEEPS ON GIVING |

Tunbridge Wells' road to Wembley continues apace. Having smashed through the club records in previous rounds, the club pushed forward with the momentum of a run-away train - and Hadleigh United, on a decent run of form themselves, found it impossible to stop. FA Vase fever has hit the town and 1,180 - another club record - poured through the gates to watch the spectacle. Andy Irvine bagged a double (one goal in each half) as Tunbridge Wells cruised to a comfortable victory on the day. Hadleigh fired an early warning shot that flew over the Tunbridge Wells bar with barely a minute gone, before The Wells began to impose themselves on the game, and first Tom Davey and then Jon Pilbeam saw efforts go off target. Andy McMath then sent a curling effort wide of the Hadleigh goal, while Lewis Mingle and McMath found the target, but also the Hadleigh goalkeeper. At the other end, Scott Chaplin failed to cause Chris Oladogba problems in the Tunbridge Wells goal when well placed. The opening goal came after 36 minutes. The Wells were defending when Jason Bourne disposessed a Hadleigh player and Pilbeam picked up the loose ball before accellerating forwards 60 yards and feeding Carl Cornell. Cornell fed McMath, who found Andy Irvine just six yards out, and Irvine picked his spot right in front of the packed home terrace. Jack Harris, on as a second half substitute for Cornell then found Irvine who blazed a 20-yard effort over, but the home support didn't have to wait much longer to see the game put beyond their visitors. Harris was again involved, winning the ball and feeding Pilbeam, who's cross fizzed across the goal area and Irvine made the connection to divert it into the net. Pilbeam himself had a couple of oportunities to put the icing on the cake with a third, but was denied - and right at the death Hadleigh might have found a consolation goal had Oliver Brown's effort fizzed past the correct side of the post. It didn't, and the final whistle brought scenes of jubilation around the ground as Tunbridge Wells were through to the Semi-Final of the FA Vase, where Monday's subsequent draw paired the club with either Ascot United or Shildon over two legs for the right to play in the FA Vase Final at Wembley. "This has been an amazing day! The players really performed and the town came out to support as well which is great," Martin Larkin told www.tunbridgewellsfc.co.uk afterwards. "I imagine one or two were thinking at kick off how the players would respond to such a large crowd, but they showed again that they are thriving off it, and I thought we were superb from the first minute to the last. "We were well aware of the dangers Hadleigh posed and managed to shut them out - apart from a few hairy moments that were more of our own making than their endeavour. When we attacked we did it with pace and if we had scored another couple of goals I don’t think anyone could have complained - we were that good on the day. "A massive thank you for all those who turned out on the day, we knew the crowd would be big, but to get nearly 1,200 was fantastic - and the noise when the goals went in was incredible." |
