| Home Crowd See What Away Crowd Saw |

Having found a rich vein of form on the road, the home crowd were egerly awaiting replication of that at Culverden, with Tunbridge Wells winless on home soil prior to the visit of Holmesdale. It's been a torrid season for The Dalers who were rooted to the foot of the table as they parked up at Culverden only to find that Tunbridge Wells hot-shot Carl 'Hooley' Cornell had put pen to paper and re-signed for The Wells after a brief spell at Erith & Belvedere. It was another hot-shot, Jack Harris, however, who opened the scoring for the home side on 18 minutes. The Wells tore into their visitors, but Holmesdale dug in hard and kept the margin down until three minutes prior to the break conceding an own goal to send The Wells in at half-time with their heads up. And it took just a minute of the second period for Harris to score his second goal of the game, before on the hour mark, Hooley netted to announce his return and make it 4-0. With the game safe, The Wells seemed to ease off a little until five minutes from time when Matt Foreman - returning from injury - popped up with a fifth goal to add the cherry to the icing and send the Tunbridge Wells crowd home happy. At last they'd tasted a bit of what the travelling contingent had promised them this side is capable of producing, but that upto this point had just been unable to envisage for themselves. Spare a thought for Holmesdale who found a tough season suddenly hit another low note. By the end of the weekend, the Homlesdale manager had resigned from the post and the process of recruiting had started by Monday. "I was really happy with Saturday, I thought first half we were superb," said first team manager Martin Larkin. "Brad (Sandeman - assistant manager) went as far as to say it was the best we have played in the last 3-and-a-bit years. We controlled the game and created numerous chances. 'Hooley' had an instant link up with Jack which is promising - and those two were very good in that first 45 minutes. "We wanted to continue it in the second half, and although we scored more goals we didn’t quite hit the heights as Holmesdale lost their shape and we fell into the trap of "you attack, we attack". It was good to have Matt Foreman back, and his goal was superb - as was Tom Davey who slotted in at left back." |
