Greenwich Suffer Mean Time as Wells Go On Rampage

The visit to Greenwich Borough got off to an ominous start when first choice goalkeeper Chris Oladogba picked up an ankle injury in the pre-match warm-up. But if that was a sign of things to come, nobody showed Perry Spackman the script, and within two minutes of the kick-off he'd put the visitors into the lead. Ten minutes later, Scott Whibley had doubled the lead and by the quarter-hour mark Andy McMath had trebbled it. That proved to be the extent of the goal-scoring in the first period, with Tunbridge Wells heading in at the break 3-0 ahead.

The half-time team talk obviously put the teeth back in to the performance and within two minutes of the re-start Jack Harris had taken on several Borough defenders and lofted the ball over the home goalkeeper and into the net for 4-0. Determined not to get white-washed, Borough hit back with Hilyard scoring after 55 minutes, but order was soon restored and within two minutes Josh Stanford had scored a fifth for The Wells (his first for the club).

On the hour-mark, Jon Pilbeam made it 6-1, and there was still room for drama at the other end of the pitch where first stand-in keeper Josh Salvidge saved a penalty on his debut, and then Akbobeta did manage to find the net to make the final score Greenwich Borough - 2, Tunbridge Wells - 6.

"This was a great night for the boys, but a bit of a mixed night for me," first team manager Martin Larkin told www.tunbridgewellsfc.co.uk. "Chris rolled his ankle in the warm up which is frustrating, just as we were at full strength for the first time this season! Josh came in and did well including saving a penalty on his debut!

"For the first 20 minutes we were frighteningly good. We moved the ball with pace and purpose, the front-two linked the play well, and we scored good goals. The second half was a bit more disjointed, but was lit up with an outstanding goal by Jack that would have graced any game. To beat four players and lift the ball over an advancing keeper 45-seconds into the second half showed what he was all about and why we have missed him.

"Those that were there last night witnessed a truly sensational goal. The whole team played well, Pilbeam was a threat the whole game and the back-four played well. A first goal for Josh Stanford and a debut for Brad Large capped off a great night!"
