Wells Endure Turbulence as Vickers Fly High

Having been flying high in recent weeks in terms of form, Tunbridge Wells endured a little turbulence when VCD Athletic visited Culverden, and found themselves a goal down at the break after Paul Gross scored five minutes from the break for the away side.

"We were disappointed with the first 45 minutes without a doubt, and the players were told that at half time," Martin Larkin told www.tunbridgewellsfc.co.uk afterwards. "In the second half we reacted well and controlled the game."

Inspite of the improvement in the second period, it was VCD who scored a second ten minutes from time via the boot of Mitchell.

"Their second goal killed it as a contest late on, but we didn’t do enough to put the ball in the back of the net", Larkin summarised. "Had Perry Spackman’s header gone in instead of crashing against the inside of the post the result may have been different - but VCD were more clinical and took advantage of a couple of errors."

Larkin now hopes to capture some more settled form in the League.

"We have had a really tough run at home to start the year off," he reflected. "The three teams that finished above us last year and our derby game has been a tough start, and yet we had 184 in the ground on Saturday which is just fantastic. As a team we spoke about the support and how important it is for us to give them the spark to bring them to life.

"Rest assured the guys are acutely aware of this. We now have home fixtures for the rest of the year against no one who finished above us last year, so we are determined to repay the support with the goals and wins that they deserve."
