Red Hot Wells Incinerate Woodstock

Following a mixed start to the campaign, things finally appear to have clicked together for Tunbridge Wells as they built on the positive results of the last two weeks to trounce Woodstock Sports 6-0 on their own patch. Perry Spackman had the visitors in the lead within 10 minutes, and by midway through the first half the game was effectively out of sight when Andy McMath and then Jason Barton scored on 20 and 28 minutes.

The Wells didn't let up, and in the second half Jon Pilbeam added goals number 4, 5 and 6 to complete the rout and bag a hattrick (70, 75 and 81 minutes). The result will certainly spur the Culverden side ahead of the meeting with third-placed VCD next week at Culverden.

"That was the perfect away performance from the group," first team manager Martin Larkin told www.tunbridgewellsfc.co.uk afterwards. "There was a real buzz in the changing room before the game, and that led into the warm up which was excellent. Woodstock are a good side and we were saying to each other on the bench that we couldn’t remember a team coming to their ground and scoring six, even in their first year in the league - so it was a pleasing day.

"The back four were outstanding - especially Perry. That was probably his best game in a Wells shirt as he was commanding and took care of the very lively front two, then three of Woodstock. He also took his goal well!

"Macca and Barton were excellent setting the tone in midfield and getting the ball out wide or into the front two, who worked well together. It was important that we kept the clean sheet as Chris’ performances have warranted it recently. Jon Pilbeam took his hat-trick well in the second half and Joe Fuller deserved a goal for his effort and quality throughout the game. But maybe that would have been a little greedy...

"Although its early in the season still, results at the top of the table went our way, and we will now work hard in training this week in preparation for another tough home game with VCD on Saturday."
