Tun Wells 1 - 3 Rusthall
| Rustics Revolt To Take Courier Cup |
|---|
Having overcome Crowborough Athletic the day before in the Courier Cup, The Wells started the Final against Rusthall brightly enough with Ryan Rook scoring within a minute with a headed effort. However, that's pretty much as good as it got for the Kent League side, and Rusthall drew level five minutes later with an own goal. Two second half strikes from Chris Mearing and Dave Jackson for the Rustics secured the Courier Cup for the Kent Invicta League side. In the day's other game, Crowborough's 5-1 win over Tonbridge settled the issue for 3rd and 4th place. “The weekend served its purpose in that we got good minutes for the combinations we were wanting to look at," first team boss Martin Larkin sumarised after the tournament. "On Saturday, playing against a side at out level we were exceptional in what was a good 5-0 win. The front two were very good and our keepers didn’t have a lot to do. "Disappointingly we didn’t hit the heights we wanted to on the second day. Scoring after 54 seconds probably (ironically) didn’t help, and gifting Rusthall a couple of goals always meant we would be chasing it. But it’s given us a few things to think about heading into Saturdays first game of the new season at home to Fisher.” |
