13/01/2009 - Deal KST Game Rearranged

Saturday's Kent League fixture at Norton Sports has been replaced with a visit to Deal Town in the Kent Senior Trophy Quarter Final.

The game at Deal originally scheduled for last Saturday was postponed following the cold snap. Details of the rearranged game at Norton Sports will be published once known.

12/01/2009 - U15s Fly High Over Valley
Tunbridge Wells 3-1 Cray Valley
The U15s run of form wasn't to be cooled by the freezing conditions as they switched to playing on Mascalls' 3G astro surface to host Cray Valley. With a cold wind sweeping in, The Wells settled into this league encounter the better of the two teams - but with their failure to take chances and some poor passing by their own standards, suddenly the visitors were given a chance, forcing Wells keeper Callum Hampson into a fantastic save to deny them. A few minutes later though, Cray Valley were again given a chance which was taken well and left Hampson with no chance.

A goal down, The Wells kept going and still could have got level before half time - but poor finishing let them down. So the half time team talk centred on getting the lads to step up the pace and the passing.

The game resumed, and the effects of the talk were clearly taking their effect, with The Wells passing much more to the standard they have set during this season. The reward came after Jack Harris collected the ball, held off three challenges and unleashed an unstoppable shot from the edge of the penalty area into the top right hand corner of the Cray net.

The visitors were shaken but not stirred and tried to get back into the game, but The Wells began to assert their style of football, and playing some great passing football, the move of the game which started from right back (Ben Williamson) who played the ball to Harry Jarrett, got it back then after a one-two with Harris, was through on goal and coolly slotted the ball into the far right bottom corner. Many more chances came and went, but with time running out, Hampson produced another fantastic stop, and that was the spark needed to stir The Wells. A great passage of play found Mushed Miah jinking his way through on goal only to be brought down for a pentaly which was coolly converted by Reece Beecrort. Man of Match award was given to the whole team for the second half performance.

07/01/2009 - League Cup Tie Rearranged

Tuesday's postponed League Cup quarter final first leg against Erith Town at Culverden has been rescheduled for Tuesday 13th January, KO 7.45pm.

The second leg at Bayliss Avenue will take place on Wednesday 21st January.

02/01/2009 - U15s Wrestle Point From Crocks

Tunbridge Wells U15s 2-2 Crockenhill
Last Sunday the U15s welcomed Crockenhill to Culverden off the back of a batch of very decent results. However, before Sunday's match, their high-flying opponents had only dropped three points from eight matches in the league, and were clearly going to be a big test for The Wells.

Indeed, Tunbridge Wells fell behind after 10 minutes, after conceding a free kick on the left. A Crockenhill forward was left unmarked from the delivery, and finished from close range. Things got worse before they got better, and within five minutes, The Wells found themselves two down - again after conceding a free kick. This time, Crockenhill thundered in a great strike from 25 yards that found the top corner - and in all honestly, at that stage it looked like Crockenhill might run riot.

The Wells regrouped, though, and started to dominate play. This was duly rewarded and after a great run down the right by Ryan Waterman, a Crockenhill defender got in a mistimed tackle, leaving the referee little option but to point to the spot for a penalty. Reece Beecroft stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way for 1-2.

Wells were now well on top with Jack Harris holding the ball up well and Beecroft having probably his best game of the season. So it came as no surprise when Abbas found Reece with a great through ball and Reece's cool finish made the half time score 2-2.

The second half started like the first with Crockenhill on the offensive, but with Adam Carrick marshalling the defence, The Wells restricted their opponents to shots from distance which Callum Hampson easily delt with in The Wells goal.

Wells again started to dominate possession, and a cross from the right found Harris unmarked, but his header went straight to the keeper. With time running out Ben Williamson and Harry Jarrett combined on the right to set Harris up with a chance to win the game but his volley went just wide. A draw was probably a fair result but once again The Wells showed that on their day they are a match for any team.

The next test is a trip to Welling United in the League on Sunday 4th January.

02/01/2009 - DISABILITY FOOTBALL LAUNCHED

Disability Football – Football for All

Tunbridge Wells FC is launching it’s disability football on the 12th January. The club has partnered with Compaid, Pepenbury and Oakley School to form the basis of the club. However all are welcome if they have been denied the opportunity of mainstream football.

The first training session is being held at Pepenbury on the 12th at 4.00 pm. The club are still looking for volunteer helpers and coaches.

If you can help then please contact Joe on 07952773228 or [email protected]

26/12/2008 - Youth Keep Winning
Both the Tunbridge Wells U13s and U15s continued their bright form recently, as the U15s smashed eight past Sevenoaks Town Juniors in an 8-1 win in the Kent Youth Cup Third Round, while the U13s built on their recent winning form in the U13s Kent Youth League (North), completing the double over table-topping Bromley (see report below).

The U15s will now visit Ashford Borough in a bid to reach the Quarter Finals of the Kent Youth Cup on January 25th.

Bromley U13s 1-2  Tunbridge Wells U13s

Sunday 22 December

Tunbridge Wells U13s travelled to Bromley knowing that their home victory over the same opponents a few weeks earlier had seen the South London side replaced at the top of the Kent Youth League (U13N). Bromley had since regained top-spot and were determined to remain there.

Bromley started the match brightly and controlled much of the first period deserving their 1-0 half time lead. The half-time team talk from coach, Paul Shipley, certainly worked wonders though, and a changed formation allowed a rejuvenated Wells to demonstrate the teamwork and passion for which they are becoming respected - and mid-way through the half, neat interplay led to a deserved equaliser from George Gill, whose shot was deflected by a Bromley defender into his own net.

The Wells grew in confidence with keeper and defence standing strong, and soon their midfield duo of Ed Gill and man-of-the-match Mike Dowrick began to take control - and with just a few minutes remaining a powerful shot by Ed Gill flew past the Bromley keeper to seal a well-fought victory for The Wells.

This is the third time already this season that The Wells have beaten the team in top spot. Perhaps this coming weekend will prove no different, when The Wells host the new leaders, Phoenix Sports, at Cadogan on Sunday, KO 2pm!

The U15s will also be playing at home on Sunday (KO 2pm) as they entertain Crockenhill in the Kent Youth League (U15N).

12/12/2008 - Coleman Joins On Loan

Tunbridge Wells are happy to announce the loan signing of Margate forward Luke Coleman for the next three months to cover for the injured Wes Tate.

Luke trained on Thursday night and looks to be a very good addition. He played for Gravesend and Northfleet scoring goals in the Conference before a move to Margate where he continued to score before a serious bout of pneumonia in early 2008.

The 21 year-old is delighted to be able to re-build his career at Tunbridge Wells, and the club is very grateful to Terry Yorath and Neville Southall for the speed of their assistance.
