| 08/07/2010 - FA CUP/VASE NEWS & REACTION |
The draw for the FA Cup and FA Vase early rounds were released by the FA today. Tunbridge Wells find themselves starting the long road to Wembley in the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup and a trip to Sussex County League Mile Oak on August 14th.
The winner would then host Ryman League Dulwich Hamlet in the Preliminary Round. (Ryman Premier outfit Carshalton Athletic await the emerging victor in the First Qualifying Round).
In the FA Vase, a home draw sees The Wells host Sussex League Hailsham Town in the First Qualifying Round on September 4th, and if they progress past Hailsham, another home tie against Sussex League opposition awaits when either Oakwood or East Preston will visit for the Second Qualifying Round.
Win through that lot, and (you probably could have guessed from recent draws), a meeting with Ash could be ahead in the First Round Proper - provided they win past Corinthian and/or Sidley United.
“I'm really happy with the draws purely because they bring new teams and a new ground to visit," first team manager Martin Larkin commented.
"There's nothing worse than being drawn with a team in your own league! We will obviously show those sides we have been drawn against the same respect we would teams in our own league - so we will be sending the scouts out to have a look, but the chance to host a big non-league club like Dulwich Hamlet in the FA Cup is a great incentive against Mile Oak.
“The Mile Oak ground is only five minutes from my house too, so it will be nice for the boys to see what I have to go through three times a week in terms of travel,” Larkin joked, before adding on a more serious note, "The Vase will certainly be a target this year. It will be nice to get through a few rounds in that!”
In the FA Youth Cup Preliminary Round, the U18s have been handed a home match with Eastbourne Borough in the week commencing September 6th. The reward, should they win through? A local derby at Tonbridge Angels in the First Round Qualifying.
"I think the draw will be a test for the U18s, as we are having to rebuild due to some players departing," admitted U18 Coach Darrell Cousins. "I don't know a lot about Eastbourne but I'm sure they are a good side. We will do our homework before hand, and prepare the lads. It will be a great experience for them. We can only try our best - the game comes a bit soon into the season - what with all the changes and trying to settle a new team - but the prospect of a match in the next round against Tonbridge Angels is an incentive." |

Everyone here at Tunbridge Wells Football Club would like to thank Reece Hollamby and all of his colleagues at St John's Sainsbury's Local for their kind donation to our BBQ today, and for advertising the fact that we were showing the football in the clubhouse.

| 18/06/2010 - LEAGUE CUP DERBY DAY |
The Draw for the League Cup First Round took place last night with Tunbridge Wells handed an away-day at Sevenoaks Town. A date for the match will be announced later.
Meantime the Kent League AGM confirmed everything people were expecting to hear. Faversham Town have indeed been promoted, and VCD Athletic have lost their appeal against relegation and will be a Kent League side next year. So we kick-off with a 16-team league on August 7th. |
