A well deserved 1-2 win for the Wells against high flyng Crockenhill (CH).
On a very poor pitch and windy conditions the Wells out played and out fought their opponents. With a full squad to choose from manger Paul Shipley, prasied the effort of all the players, but especialy Josh and Taylor, returning form long term injuries. Not only did this swell the numbers, it also raised morale after a weeks of inactivity.
With the slope & wind at their backs the Wells took the game to CH and were dominataing posession and terroiry, but failed to take numerous chances which came their way. CH were dangerous on the counter attack, but GK James Banfield was never really troubled.
Following a corner from the right, Fergus rose above the defence to power a header goalwards, only to be denied by the outstrected hand of a defender. Penalty shouts rang out from the side of the pitch and the referee gave us the decsion. Up stepped Ryan Hinckson to cooly dispatch the penalty and the Wells led 1-0 at half time.
The second half the Wells played against the slope and the wind, which allowed CH to dicate the terrority, which finally led to an equaliser. In boxing terms it ws now down to who wanted it the most, and with the clocking ticking down, a wonderful change of diection from Jack and early pass, gave Connor Jerrery the opportunity to open his account for the Wells, with a delicate chip over the advancing GK.
A well deserved win which sets the team up nicely for the last 6 games of the season. |
