Tunbridge Wells crashed out of the FA Cup in the replay at Sevenoaks Town on Tuesday night. Benji Agana gave The Wells a half-time lead in this game, hitting home from close range on 18 minutes, but once more Sevenoaks came out in the second period and hit back twice.
They levelled through Chris Walker, who reacted first to Mikelle Czanner's penalty save from Matt Foreman on the hour, and Guy Smith hit their winner three minutes from time. The Wells were then reduced to nine-men after Brad Draper (two bookings) and Jon Pilbeam (straight red) were sent off.
So Sevenoaks progress to play Dulwich Hamlet in the Preliminary Round.
"I'm very disappointed in our performance over the two games," Martin Larkin told www.tunbridgewellsfc.co.uk after the game. "But it’s a cup we cannot win so I'm not as upset as if it was a league game.
"I promised myself I would never use the referee as an excuse, but we were all over them when he awarded a penalty to Sevenoaks (which the linesman gave). The incident happened outside the box. Mikelle made a wonderful save, but it was tapped in by a Sevenoaks player who was five yards inside the box when the penalty was taken.
"But that is an excuse and the fact is we didn’t keep possession of the ball well enough over the two games, something we will need to do against Herne Bay on Saturday." |
