Tunbridge Wells bowed out of the Kent Senior Trophy, having put in a considerably better performance against Herne Bay than the last time they visited Culverden in September.
Benji Agana put the home side ahead before the break, but two second half goals from Herne Bay saw them through to a Quarter Final date with Holmesdale.
“I have mixed feelings from Saturday," Martin Larkin told www.tunbridgewellsfc.co.uk following the game. "We are obviously upset to lose a game in which we took the lead but at the same time I thought we were superb for the first half against what is an excellent Herne Bay side. However, there were no league points at stake and we managed to give 90 mins to Jon Pilbeam and Tom Davey.
"In the first half we pressed and hurried them, and created three or four chances going forward. We scored from a set piece and looked the better side.
"For the second half we dropped a bit too deep and Herne Bay were excellent. They are definitely the best side we have come across this year in terms of attacking play - their movement and pace is exceptional. The goals we conceded were very poor though, and we will be explaining why to the relevant people and challenging them to learn from those mistakes, and make sure they don’t happen again when league points are at stake.” |
