Tunbridge Wells wrapped up a very decent month beating Beckenham Town 2-0 at Culverden - a result that further proved The Wells credentials to harbour genuine hopes for a top six finish this season.
Andy McMath (55 mins) rifled home a free kick to open his goal-scoring account for The Wells, before Beckenham lost their composure and had two men sent off. Mike Lord (72 mins) finished the job for the home side.
Remarkably, with results elsewhere, Tunbridge Wells dropped into seventh place in the league table, but could move up to fourth spot with a two-goal win over Corinthians in mid-week.
“I was very happy following Saturday’s win," Martin Larkin told www.tunbridgewellsfc.co.uk after the game. "Beckenham have some excellent attacking talent so it was pleasing to keep another clean sheet - and especially pleasing to have Perry Spackman back at the heart of the defence.
"I felt we played very well in the first half when we needed to dig in and make the tackles, which meant that in the second half we were able to play a bit more and Andy McMath came more and more into the game, mainly due to the excellent work of Sam Phillips who has really stepped up 2 or 3 levels this year.
"Macca took his goal very well, he scores free-kick after free-kick in training when we do them, so we knew it was coming. He is certainly someone who we feel could get us 10 league goals a season from his central midfield role.
"Benji Agana worked tirelessly again up top, and Lordy again showed great composure when the chance fell to him to secure the points. That was his 10th goal of the season.
"Our wide players were again a threat, Nick Graham is improving each week and Alex Rich was quite unwell during the game, but refused to come off and certainly played his part.
It was also nice that the subs that came on gave a good account of themselves - one of whom is Carl Cornell (or ‘Hooley’ as he is better known). He approached us with a desire to step up from the Kent County League where he was playing with Tonbridge Invicta and certainly ticks the boxes of young, local, talented and hungry to improve.” |
